Associate Diploma in Veterinary Technology
This program is designed for students interested in a career working with and caring for animals. The program is designed to provide the technical training and knowledge required to become veterinary technicians working in association with practicing veterinarians. Students complete a comprehensive range of courses and training related to the care of food and laboratory animals, as well as companion and sport animals. All students are required to complete a six-week externship immediately following the final semester.
The Veterinary Technology diploma program is available in two different delivery options. Both formats of the program are fully accredited by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (OAVT).
University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus requires that all Veterinary Technology and Veterinary Assistant and Office Administration students be immunized against the rabies virus and have an adequate rabies serum titre (>0.5 IU/ml).
Option 1 - Conventional Program (4 Semesters over 2 Years)
Note
All courses in the Veterinary Technology program are compulsory. Full progression into the subsequent semester is dependent on the successful completion of each course in the previous semester. If students are not successful in a course, course registration in the subsequent semester may be limited due to pre-requisite and co-requisite requirements. No elective courses are offered in this program. Priority access will be given to full-time students and those following the regular schedule of study for course and lab section registration. Any student not planning, or unable to follow the regular full-time schedule of studies must meet with the Program Counsellor and the Program Coordinator to create an academic plan.
