The program utilizes the collaborative resources of the University of Guelph faculty and staff, industry professionals and the grounds, workshop and laboratory facilities of the Guelph Turfgrass Institute. Practical and scientific study is combined with a required summer paid internship to provide students with a wide range of practical experiences, knowledge and networking opportunities. The Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management is offered at the Guelph campus and prepares students for a variety of career opportunities including golf course management, lawn care, sports field management, parks management, landscaping, sod production and related supply and service industry positions.
Courses in the Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management are restricted to students enrolled in the program.
Following winter semester 2, all DTM students are required to complete a summer paid internship which provides a minimum 15 weeks of full-time work. The internship must be in a field related to turfgrass management. Throughout semesters 1 and 2, students will be given opportunities to develop their resume and cover letter, gain interview skills, and perform self-assessments. Students will work closely with the DTM Program Manager to identify and select work experiences that fit their aspirations and development goals. Prior to the internship, students must outline a series of personal learning objectives and communicate them with their internship employers. During the internship, students will also be expected to take notes on weather trends, personal activities and record information that relates to the operational structure of their selected work location.
