This is a semester-long experience in a typically paid work setting designed for students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a vocational setting. In this course, students develop goals to be achieved during the semester and work with their employer to evaluate progress on achieving their goals. At the conclusion of the work experience, students will reflect on their experiences and how these may inform their future career goals. Students must obtain a passing work experience report evaluation and work performance evaluation grade from the employer to receive WEX Certification.

WEX*6100 Work Experience Preparation Summer, Fall, and Winter [0.00]
Students acquire the skills required to succeed in a competitive employment process as part of the Work Experience Program (WEX). The course covers how to identify and communicate skills, knowledge and abilities, how to write an effective resume and cover letter and learn about specific interview techniques. This course also introduces students to theory, practice and policies of WEX to prepare them for the WEX employment process. Students complete this course as a prerequisite to the Work Experience Employment Process Course WEX*6110.

WEX*6110 Work Experience Employment Process Summer, Fall, and Winter [0.00]
Students learn about the Work Experience (WEX) employment cycle and obtain practice and support in applying to WEX roles on the Experience Guelph site. Students prepare for interviews and develop their professional brand to match their knowledge of self with employer needs. This course discusses legislation, roles and responsibilities for maintaining employee health and safety and well-being, including related responsibilities of employers and the rights of employees. In addition, students self-reflect regarding career development and what is required to be successful in a professional hiring process and work setting.
